FORT MYERS, Fla. — A man being rescued on Thursday in Fort Myers from underneath rubble after Hurricane Ian slammed into the coast was caught on video.
In the clip, it appears Good Samaritans and uniformed officials find the man underneath a crumbled building. Someone can be overheard saying, "You're okay, we got you, we got you," as the group is taking debris off of the man.
The group was able to help lift the man onto a makeshift stretcher. Someone can also be heard saying "he's in shock."
After he is recovered, a woman takes off her sweater and covers the rescued man up.
According to Gov. Ron DeSantis, more than 700 people have been rescued so far, mostly by air. Rescue efforts will continue in the area hit hardest by Hurricane Ian as state officials collect data for search efforts.
People can sign up through Volunteer Florida to lend a helping hand, and there are different types of roles for people to sign up for.
Those who wish to volunteer must provide where they would like to work and what kind of role they would like to operate in.
