'It would be amazing' | Kentucky's Dillingham weighs in on the possibility of playing with Spurs' Wembanyama

Dillingham is highly rated in many mock drafts.

SAN ANTONIO — As the San Antonio Spurs 2023-24 season winds down and the focus will shift to the 2024 NBA Draft, the team will have many prospects to evaluate.

San Antonio could have multiple first-round draft picks this summer (depending on how the Raptors end their season), and Kentucky's Rob Dillingham is a player who is highly rated in many mock drafts.

The point guard could hear his name announced early in the first round, and with the Spurs needing point guard help, he could see himself wearing the Spurs draft day cap.

Dillingham recently declared himself for the NBA Draft, and during an interview with ESPN, he spoke about the chance he could see himself paired with Victor Wembanyama.

"I would be amazing because there's nothing he can't do. Playing with him, it's like two people got to guard him," he said. "Playing with Wemby, I feel it would be an amazing opportunity, for sure."

Dillingham also noted it would be great to play with the Spurs and be coached by Gregg Popovich but continued to glow about Wembanyama, admitting he was watching him play during his NBA rookie season.

"I was definitely paying attention," he said. "He started the season playing amazing. Shooting over 40 [percent] from the three [point line]. He literally can do everything."

Said Dillingham: "I think he's amazing for sure."

According to the current CBS Mock Draft, Dillingham would be selected at No. 4, which means the Spurs could see his name on the board if they get a top-5 pick.

Most draft analyses say he is on the small side, listed at 6-3, and that his defense needs improvement,

However, Dillingham is described as a dynamic shot-creator and scorer. It's something the Spurs need from a point guard to pair with Wembanyama.

He averaged 15.5 points per game and 4.2 assists and shot 43% from the three-point line last season with Kentucky.
