SAN ANTONIO — When the San Antonio Spurs host the Houston Rockets tonight at the Frost Bank Canter, don't expect Dillon Brooks to gush about rookie Victor Wembanyama based on his recent comments.

Since Wemby's NBA arrival and even his time in France, plenty of players have come out to praise the 19-year-old for his potential and skill set.

But when Houston's Brooks got a first look at Wembanyama during the preseason, he only had a few words to share.

"He's tall. That's really it," Brook said.

Actually, there is more to Wembanyama than his height.

Despite the home-opener loss to Dallas, he showed flashes of his immense potential.

He finished with 15 points, five rebounds, and two blocks but was saddled with foul trouble throughout the game.

In addition, he sparked a Spurs comeback late in the game showing off his ability to finish at the rim, run the floor, defend, and get the crowd amped with his enthusiasm.

He even impressed Dallas' Luka Doncic.

“He’s going to be amazing. He already is. The size, obviously, like everybody talks about. The way he moves for 7’5-7’6. He moves incredible," Doncic said. "He moves like a point guard almost, so it’s pretty amazing to see him translate. He’s going to have a great future and he’s going to be amazing to watch.”

The Mavericks even simulated Wembanyama's wingspan with long paddles to prepare for their matchup.

Other players from Doncic to LeBron James heap praise on the rookie which is a testament to his other-worldly potential and more.

Houston faced San Antonio twice in the 2023 NBA preseason with Brooks playing one game on Oct. 16. Wembanyama did not play in the game Brooks was in.

With both players set to play tonight, perhaps Brooks will have more to say about facing Wemby for the first time on the court.
