Two men arrested, accused of forcing woman into prostitution

Two men have been placed in jail for forcing a woman into prostitution for a month.
One of two suspects is escorted from SAPD headquarters Wednesday night.

SAN ANTONIO -- Two men accused of forcing a woman into prostitution are now in custody. San Antonio Police said Roger Ramirez and Pedro Victela kept a 20-year-old woman captive for more than a month.

Police said officers discovered the victim during a welfare check at a motel on the 3500 block of SW Military Ave.

The two men were arrested on the spot, both under charges of human trafficking. During the arrest, police said they learned Ramirez had also violated parole for a murder in 2001.

The woman was not seriously injured at the time, but police say she had been sexually abused for a long period of time.

"The victim was threatened, the victim was assaulted over the course of a month and forced into prostitution," said Officer Douglas Greene, a spokesman with the department.

Police are now looking into the case to see if there are more victims.

They say the victim will be placed into counseling for the emotional trauma she endured.
