‘We just want him home’ | Family fears something happened to missing grandfather, police issue CLEAR Alert

Benjamin Regalado, 64, vanished from his north side neighborhood more than a week ago. Loved ones are desperate for his safe return.

SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio family is asking for help.

It’s been more than a week since a grandfather disappeared from his north side neighborhood near Blanco Road and Glencoe Drive.

Benjamin Regalado, 64, has diabetes and is without his medication, loved ones say.

Ruby Regalado fears her father is in immediate danger.

“We were always in contact with him,” said Ruby. “We were always texting him, ‘Good night.’ When I would wake up, I would see his text messages before I would go to work.”

The last photo Ruby has of her father is heartbreaking. It’s a screenshot from her Ring camera of Benjamin kissing her on the cheek on Sunday, Mar. 17.

On Mar. 18, Benjamin didn’t show up to work. Loved ones told KENS 5 he didn’t respond to their frantic phone calls either.

“We were separated but he still lived around the corner,” said Laura Serna. “He was always here; he had a key to the house. We would still celebrate our anniversary every year. On Sunday, we were celebrating our 43rd anniversary. He came to breakfast, and that night he texted me, ‘Good night.’ That was the last time I heard from him. On Monday, my son called me and said, ‘Mom, Dad didn’t show up to work. He didn’t call in either.’”

The family says they searched Benjamin’s home but didn’t find anything unusual.

Ruby says a small search party located Benjamin’s car on Mar. 22 just a few blocks away from his home near San Pedro Avenue.

“We can’t share many details because it’s an ongoing investigation, but we are asking the community to continue sharing his flyer,” Ruby said.

“Something happened to him,” Laura said through tears. “I mean, he was so friendly. He was always giving rides to the homeless. He would give them rides to Walmart, to the store, he would give them money.”

Benjamin is described by his family as an incredibly kind man with a great sense of humor.

“He has tattoos on his left arm, his stomach, his back,” Laura said.

“He’s about 5 foot 9 inches, his hair is always in a ponytail,” said Ruby. “Our family is so broken without him.”

If you may have seen anything suspicious the night of Mar. 17 in the Olmos Park area, or know anything about Benjamin's whereabouts, please call the San Antonio Police Department’s missing person unit at (210)207-7660.
