UPDATE: Two hurt in collapse of hospital parking garage

University Hospital confirms there has been a partial structural collapse of a parking garage under construction near Medical and Wurzbach in the Medical Center.

SAN ANTONIO -- A partial structural collapse of a parking garage under construction at University Hospital near Medical and Wurzbach in the Medical Center injured two workers Monday.

The incident occurred just before noon in northwest San Antonio.

I heard a loud rumble, and I looked up and saw concrete coming down, a witness across the street from the construction zone told KENS 5.

Officials say it was the newest portion of the parking garage located atthe corner of Wurzbach and Medical, that suffered the damage.

They say there were about 120 workers on site at the time. There were several people initially missing, officials on the scene said, but they were shortly accounted for.

Just after noon, officials confirmed two people were injured. One of those patients is now reported in critical condition. The other is listed in stable condition.

The West Parking lot opened in January, following an inspection. Officials say there is a small portion of that garage that requires a little shoring up, but it is sound and will continue to be used for staff parking.

Work on the construction site has been haulted pending an investigation into the cause of the failure.
