SAPD officer shot multiple times in road rage shooting identified

San Antonio police say a road rage incident ended with a shooting outside of a gentleman's club on the city's northwest side Tuesday.

The off-duty San Antonio police officer shot multiple times in a road rage incident on Tuesday has been identified as 11-year veteran Dezi Rios.

According to SAPD Chief William McManus, the incident started around 9:30 pm Tuesday with an altercation on the highway, where 25-year-old Demontae Walker accused an off-duty officer of cutting him off.

Rios was not driving a city vehicle,

The family of Walker is raising new questions about the incident.

Both parties got out of their vehicles in the parking lot of AllStars Gentleman’s SportsClub at Interstate 10 and Wurzbach Parkway. The business was not involved with the incident, as both drivers were coming from another location, McManus said.

Walker and Officer Rios veteran began shooting at the each other.

"Both got out of the vehicles. the other driver began shooting at the off-duty police officer who was in the other vehicle. The officer had his weapon in his car and he had to make his way back to the car. retreated to the car-- retrieved his weapon and returned fire," McManus said.

The officer was struck six times, mostly in the mid- to lower torso, McManus said. The officer was in surgery late Tuesday night but is expected to be ok.

The man who opened fire was shot twice and a woman who was with him received a graze wound to the head, McManus said.

Walker is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Chief McManus did not release the names of anyone involved in the incident Tuesday, but the father of the other man involved in the shooting reached out to KENS 5.

His father said the woman in the car with Walker says the officer was the first to shoot at his son. He said his son moved from Chicago to San Antonio five years ago to avoid gun violence after the death of his brother. He said his son carries a gun with him for personal protection.

His father provided this picture of his son.
