Man in custody after shooting toward officers at motel, police say

Police say the man also shot at officers on the scene.

SAN ANTONIO — Police arrest a man who barricaded himself inside a motel room and shot at officers on the scene, according to San Antonio Police.

The situation began unfolding around 6 a.m. Thursday at a Studio 6 in the Medical Center and the street closure lasted a few hours.

According to officials the man was identified as 42-year-old Johnny Munoz. Police say he was wearing a ski mask and had a gun when he demanded the room from motel guests staying there; those occupants weren't hurt. Police say the man also shot at officers on the scene.

Officials early morning shut down Fredericksburg Road and Louis Pasteur, near Medical Center Drive, as they worked the scene. Lanes are now back open.

NISD School officials say any absences or delays for students affected by these road closures will not be counted against students as the school has a number of bus routes in the area.

Editors note: A previous version of the article had the name of a suspect, but SAPD has since said the name could not be confirmed.
