'My heart goes out to her family' | Police searching for suspects involved in shooting death of woman at east side car wash

Wednesday night's shooting marks the 134th homicide in San Antonio this year, which is an 11% decrease compared to the same time frame in 2022.

SAN ANTONIO — Residents on San Antonio's east side are wondering if their safety is at risk after a woman was found shot to death in the parking lot of an east side car wash Wednesday night. Police say no one's been arrested.

“My heart goes out to her family. This is too much for this area,” said Britney Grant, who is a regular at the car wash where the shooting happened.

Police responded to the Bubble Zone Car Wash at north Foster Road near Binz Engleman around 7:30 p.m.

Officers discovered a woman shot to death in the back seat of a white SUV riddled with bullet holes and blown out windows.

According to SAPD, witnesses saw three men running away from the crime scene after the shooting.

Grant hopes police find the perpetrators soon. While she doesn’t know the victim personally, she feels impacted after knowing those affected by gun violence.

“I know people who’ve lost small children to gun violence out here and they’re still dealing with it,” Grant said. “It’s just so unfortunate and so scary that this keeps happening around San Antonio. The gun violence is scary.”

From Jan. 1 to Oct. 19, 2023, San Antonio police responded to 134 homicides.

Last year, there were 151 homicides during the same time frame, which is an 11% decrease.

The 2024 city budget includes historic funding for public safety, including a little more than $624 million going toward the San Antonio Police Department.

The budget greenlights the hiring of 117 new officers and installing ballistic glass on police cruisers.

“At what point does gun violence start to affect us too much where normal people just trying to live day to day are being killed,” Grant said.

Anyone with information on the shooting is urged to call police.
