Medical Examiner's Office identifies murder victim in cold case

A sketch helped investigators identify 16-year-old Bonny Simmons as the victim of a murder more than a year ago.

The Bexar County Sheriff's Office has one piece of the puzzle in the mystery surrounding human remains that were discovered on W.W. White Road in April 2017.

More than a year after the remains were discovered, the Medical Examiner's Office made a positive identification of the victim. On Tuesday night, we learned that the victim was 16-year-old Bonny Simmons.

BCSO used the skills of Forensic Artist Betsy Cooper to create facial features for the initially unidentified woman's body. The body found was in a state of decomposition when initially found. Cooper was able to create a sketch which was released to local media and social media.

Among the many calls the Sheriff's Office received, the victim's mother came forward, believing the sketch could be of her missing daughter. DNA and dental records confirmed her suspicions.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office Cold Case Unit will continue to investigate the murder of Bonny Simmons.

BCSO Homicide Detectives are asking for anyone who may have information on the murder of Bonny Simmons, to please call the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division at 210-335-6000 or 210-335-6070.
