Another company is opening a regional HQ in North Texas

The San Jose, Calif.-based company on Thursday announced plans for the new regional headquarters in Frisco.

FRISCO, Texas — The cybersecurity company McAfee is bringing a regional headquarters to North Texas.

The San Jose, Calif.-based company on Thursday announced plans for the new regional headquarters in Frisco.

McAfee will open offices at The Star development, where the Dallas Cowboys are headquartered, by the middle part of this year, according to a release from Frisco city officials.

“Our decision to choose Frisco for our regional HQ was also based on the diverse cultural destination the city has become, and the many opportunities our team members will have to be immersed in the community and to give back to the many non-profit organizations here,” Benni Bueckert, a McAfee vice president, said in the release.

Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney called the move "a win for Frisco."

“As an innovation-focused Smart City, we know how important online protection is," Cheney said. "We are proud to have a global leader like McAfee regionally headquartered in Frisco.”

The announcement did not say how many employees would join McAfee's Frisco office. The company employs more than 1,800 people and serves 108 million customers, according to its website.

The move will be another development for Frisco, which also recently announced plans for a Universal Studios theme park.

Former Friso Mayor Maher Maso watched the growth progress year by year.

"I moved here in '92'," he told WFAA. "It was a farm!"

"Everybody was related, okay? They were somebody’s cousin. You really couldn’t talk about anybody. I mean, when I moved here it was 6500 people!"

More than 200,000 people now call Frisco home. And several new attractions, like PGA Frisco, The Star, Ikea, to name a few, have opened since.

And more will keep coming.

"Frisco's an easy sell, quite frankly," Current Mayor Jeff Cheney told WFAA.

The area surrounding The Star, he said, will keep growing.

"It’s probably the hottest commercial real estate market in the united states. And it is gonna create its downtown so to speak."

As far as population, Cheney said he expects growth will finally slow in about 5 years.

"And we’ll see that growth north, in Prosper, Celina," he said.

Cheney said the goal is to make Frisco a place young people can spend their entire lives, not just a slice of time.

He said the city will remain committed to maintaining open spaces and prioritizing safety.

Collin County has drawn other regional and national headquarters for companies, including Toyota's North American headquarters in Plano.
