Man faces life in prison for deadly shooting caught on camera in Silver Spring

The deadly shooting was caught on video by surveillance cameras inside of the house.

SILVER SPRING, Md. — A Silver Spring man was convicted Friday for the murder of his roommate in 2021.

According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, 24-year-old Andre R. Moore was found guilty by a jury of first-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence for the shooting death of 40-year-old Michael Sutton.

Court documents show the shooting happened after Moore and Sutton got into an argument inside the home they lived in along Balmoral Drive in Silver Spring. The deadly shooting was caught on video by surveillance cameras inside of the house.

During the argument, Moore shot Sutton in the back of the neck, killing him.

Officials say Moore ran away after shooting Sutton and was later found in a wooded area between the home and Interstate 495.

State’s Attorney John McCarthy said in a statement that Moore used a 'ghost gun' to shoot his roommate to death.

“This is yet another case of senseless, deadly violence involving a ‘ghost gun’ or privately manufactured firearm. The weapon was illegally purchased by the defendant about two weeks prior to the murder. We send our deepest condolences to the family of Michael Sutton and thank the Montgomery County Police detectives and Assistant State’s Attorneys Kimberly Cissel and James Dietrich for seeing that justice is served in this matter,” said McCarthy.

Moore faces the potential of life in prison. He will be sentenced on Feb. 22, 2024.
