A mother is grieving her son’s sudden death after he was shot and killed at a basketball court in Kirby.
"I just keep replaying those words in my head, when he [son’s father] called me and he said they killed mijo," Rosa Ramirez.
On Friday, around 2:18 p.m. police received a call about a shooting at the basketball court at John H. Memorial Park.
When officers arrived they said they found 16-year-old Favian Ramirez on the ground with a gunshot wound to the chest. He later died at the San Antonio Military Medical Center.
Police believe an argument with another teen fueled the shooting.
“This is just a working theory right now, that it was hurt feelings over a basketball game," Kirby Police Chief, Kevin Bois said.
The 16-year-old suspect was arrested less than four hours later after police interviewed witnesses.
Ramirez says she doesn't hold a grudge towards the shooter, she simply feels sorry for him.
"I think what hurt me the most, it was another 16-year-old kid, you know, the fact that he’s just a kid, he didn't know what he's doing," Ramirez said.
She said less than six months ago, Favian moved out of her home in Mansfield, Texas to move in with his father in San Antonio. She said Favian wanted to get to know his father.
While there are many questions left, Ramirez says she’s just trying to cope with the loss of her youngest son and get him back home.
