The family of the 61-year-old Waco AT&T employee who was stabbed more than a dozen times and found lying in an alley in April 2016 filed a gross negligence lawsuit against the telecommunications company Tuesday in Dallas district court, according to a report by the Dallas Morning News.

The $1 million lawsuit was filed by two of Cleveland's seven daughters, Amber Hicks and Drew Christian -- along with his mother Zella Cleveland, the report stated.

The lawsuit is based on the family's argument that Cleveland was sent to a dangerous part of Waco and their claim that AT&T took three hours to check on Cleveland after he allegedly called the company to say he was involved in some sort of altercation, the Dallas Morning News reported. He would later be found dead.

More than a year after his death, Cleveland's murder has not been solved. Around the one year anniversary of his passing, Channel 6 interviewed his daughters -- including the two who filed the lawsuit. Watch the interview by clicking here.

Cleveland worked for AT&T for more than 44 years.
