SAN ANTONIO -- KENS 5 recently acquired a stomach-turning video from a San Antonian who said he saw cooks from a local eatery store food in the men's bathroom. In fact, he pulled out his cell phone to record what he said he witnessed.

KENS 5 took the video to the city's health department and informed the owner of the establishment, who was shocked to see the video.

In the video, the patron can be heard asking the cooks of the downtown eatery, "you store the food in the restroom? That's your process?"

The patron said he was upset when he saw servers storing food in the men's bathroom. In the video, you can hear an employee say they have "storage issues."

"Our process is we clean the restroom and we store the food," said the employee in the video.

KENS 5 took the video to the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District.

"We don't permit any food to be stored in the restroom of any facility," said Stephen J. Barscewski, Sanitarian Services Mgr., S.A. Metro Health District. "It's just not allowed."

Barscewski said they've come across some unsanitary situations in the past. However, this one was quite shocking and something they are now looking into.

"If the owner or the operator there is a chef they would know for certain that's not approved in any way," Barscewski said.

That seemed to be the case. KENS 5 tracked down the head chef of the establishment to show him the video.

"This is news to me," said the chef as he watched the video. Clearly, it was a shock to him as well.

"That definitely means we have issues that I have to fix with my kitchen first off that is not our policy that is not what we do," the chef said.

On Wednesday morning, the owner of the establishment took immediate action and fired the employee seen on the video and because of that Kens 5 has chosen not to name the establishment.

Meanwhile, the city does take every case serious and is looking into it. If you have any questions about a restaurant or other eatery in town CLICK HERE.
