'He was my Superman' | Brother of man allegedly killed by uncle on west-side speaks out

Kennan Johnson said his brother looked forward to rebuilding the motor on his truck with his son over Christmas weekend.

SAN ANTONIO — The brother of Kian Johnson, who was shot and killed one week ago, is remembering him as a hero and loving father. Meanwhile, Kian’s uncle remains behind bars facing a murder charge.

“He was my Superman. If Kryptonite wasn’t able to take him out, I definitely couldn’t foresee something like this happening to him, so it’s definitely very tough,” said Kennan Johnson, Kian’s younger brother.

San Antonio police responded to the 1700 block of Laven Drive last Tuesday morning where they found Kian shot to death in the backyard of a home.

Police arrested Kian’s uncle Barry Moore, who called 911 to report he had shot a family member following a physical fight with his nephew. Police discovered Kian had been shot once in the torso and died on scene.

Kennan didn’t wish to talk about the case but instead, reflect on the man he grew up with in San Antonio as a loving person who adored his family.

“He was currently working on his truck, rebuilding the motor, something that he was working on here with his son. He was looking forward to Christmas weekend working on that truck,” Kennan said.

It’s a task Kennan said he will take on alongside his nephew Kendric, who’s now without a father.

“Definitely very saddened by the loss of him, but right now my main focus is to get him to his eternal resting place,” Kennan said.

Kennan organized an online fundraiser to support Kian’s family as funeral arrangements are in the works.

“Best thing you can do with anything is prayer,” Kennan said.
