"I think people need it" | Beaumont home lights up the holiday season

BEAUMONT, Texas — A Beaumont residence has been turning heads this Christmas in hopes to spread holiday merriment.

A home on Shadow Bend Avenue near Delaware Road has an amazing display of Christmas lights illuminating the entire block with holiday cheer.

The Blevins family puts up the massive display every year, inviting families from all over to drive through the set up and even take pictures in Santa's sleigh.

The Blevins family explains what goes into creating such a decorative display every year.

"It started with pretty much just metal trees, rebar trees years ago and then we added more trees, then the trees grew then we added lights," Shelley Blevins said.

The Blevins family have fully embraced the holiday season.

"We've been doing it for several years. It's grown over the years. About the time Covid hit, we really ramped it up," she said.

They partnered with Village Mills, Texas Company 'Holiday Lights and Decor' to create memories that visitors will never forget.

"They're here about four day sand it can be anywhere from a crew of ten to fifteen to twenty,"

"The first week of November, the minute they're done, we're flipping a switch," Shelley said.

A massive tree of lights, a family of reindeer and a field full of bright colors are guaranteed to turn any frown upside down.

"I think people need it. Holidays are so stressful. Everybody's running and you just need something to make you smile," she said.

Mark Blevins recalls a time when their festive display helped a family in ways they'd never imagine.

"My favorite story was a lady who came by and her mom had been suffering from Dementia and she's been having a more and more difficult time getting her out. But she told Shelley that if I tell her that we're going to see the pretty house then that motivated her. That would get her up," he said.

The Blevins say they will continue to spread the holiday cheer for many years to come.

"It's stories like that, that keep us wanting to do whatever we can just to make people smile," he said.

The Blevins plan to keep their festive decorations up for the first few weeks of January. So, if you're still in the holiday spirit after today, the Blevins say as long as the gate is open, anybody is welcome to drive through and enjoy the views.
