A 'Christmas miracle' for families in need from the Salvation Army

This year, the Salvation Army took in families in need and gave them a special holiday celebration.

During the holidays many families in need find themselves outside with nowhere to go, but this year the Salvation Army took them inside and gave them their own special holiday celebration.

"Our parents come from many different backgrounds," Roxanne Ponce, with the Salvation Army, said. "We have domestic violence, some suffer from addiction and then for some, life just happens."

Ponce makes it her mission every year to make a difference in their lives though.

"It was one Christmas morning that I came by the shelter and I remember leaving the shelter seeing a woman and her child in the lobby and she just had these silent tears rolling down her face," Ponce said.

She knew she had to do something to change that.

"I remember driving away from the shelter thinking there are too many of us in San Antonio who want to give back," Ponce said. "There's no reason for our families to not be celebrating Christmas on Christmas day."

Ponce got her family together this Christmas to be a blessing to others. They gave 72 kids and their families food, gifts, a visit from Santa Claus and a little bit of hope for the future.

"It takes a huge load off the parent's back," Ponce said. You can't put a price on that."
