Warrant reveals new info in father's arrest in death of 14-year-old son

The father of a slain 14-year-old has been arrested and charged with manslaughter in the shooting death of his son.

A father charged in his son's death will soon be a free man. As of late Wednesday, Andres Delgado has posted bond and is waiting to be released.

The father's account of what happened on March 14 just didn't add up to investigators. The morning of the shooting, Delgado told police that someone was trying to break into his house. Several days ago, he told KENS 5 that the shots came from outside and he believed the previous owners of the house were the target.

But SAPD says that investigators weren't able to find evidence that any shots came from outside.

“I would never hurt my children," he said. "They are all I have. Oh my God, I would never hurt my babies."

The 44-year-old was arrested on Tuesday night and charged with manslaughter for killing his 14-year-old son, Andy Delgado. At this time, police say that it appears to be an accidental shooting.

According to an arrest warrant, gun shots were fired from inside the home on Aransas Street on two occasions in the early morning hours of March 14. The first time, a family who lives across the street heard the gunfire and went to check on Delgado and his children. The family told police that they saw Delgado with a gun, but his son Andy and his daughter were both unarmed and unharmed.

A short time later, more gun shots were heard from inside the home. This time, police say witnesses saw Delgado run out holding his son in his arms. The teen had been shot in the chest and died at the hospital.

Delgado told KENS 5 a few days ago that he didn't do it. He said that on the morning in question his daughter heard someone outside her window.

"Yeah, someone did shoot from outside, like two or three shots," he said.

However, police say that there is no evidence to suggest there are any other suspects or that any burglar was attempting to enter the home. SAPD says that investigators are still looking into the possibility that Delgado may have been under the influence of drugs. According to the warrant, possible narcotics were found in the home.

Police also found three handguns, an AR-15 rifle, and a shotgun as well as more than 50 live rounds of handgun and rifle ammunition.
