Suspect charged with murder after man stabbed to death in Downtown Austin

Austin police say the suspect has a lengthy criminal history and was out of jail on bond.

AUSTIN, Texas — A man remains in Travis County jail after a deadly stabbing in downtown Austin.

Police say 56-year-old Hilario Adrian was arrested and charged with murder after allegedly stabbing a man to death on Dec. 10.

According to Austin police, 41-year-old Jeffrey Lewis was found lying on a sidewalk at Congress Avenue and West 6th Street with multiple stab wounds. Lewis was taken to a hospital where he later died.

During APD's investigation, they learned Lewis and Adrian were involved in some kind of disturbance before it escalated. Adrian allegedly admitted to APD that he stabbed Lewis.

APD says they discovered Lewis has a lengthy criminal history and that at the time of the stabbing, he was out of jail on bond. Police say Adrian was arrested in April on an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge before he was released in August.

Adrian now faces a murder charge and is being jailed on a $1 million bond. APD continues to investigate the case as Austin's 71st homicide of 2023.

Anyone with information on this stabbing should contact APD Homicide at 512-974-TIPS or email them at homicide.apd@austintexas.gov. You can also submit tips anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program.
