Former Dallas Stars player facing sexual assault charges

Mike Ribeiro, 43, was in court Wednesday facing two counts of sexual assault and one count of attempted sexual assault.

MOUNT VERNON, Texas — Mike Ribeiro, a retired professional hockey player who played for the Dallas Stars, was in court on Wednesday facing sexual assault charges.

Ribeiro, 43, was indicted on three charges last year -- two counts of sexual assault and one count of attempted sexual assault, records show.

The alleged assaults happened on June 20 and June 21 in 2021 at Lake Cypress Springs in Texas -- one on a boat, the other on a jet ski.

Both victims took the stand on Wednesday.

The attempted sexual assault alleged took place on June 23, 2021, according to the indictment.

Ribeiro's defense said they will show how police incorrectly conducted the investigation.

The Montreal Canadiens traded Ribeiro to the Stars on Sept. 30, 2006. He led Dallas in points in the 2006-2007 season and, in July 2007, was signed to a one-year extension for $2.8 million. In 2008, he played in the NHL All-Star Game. He would continue to play for the Stars until June 2012, when he was traded to the Washington Capitals.
