St. Philip's students spruce up eastside-homes

SAN ANTONIO - Graduating and former St. Philip's college construction students put what they've learned to the test at an east-side neighborhood.

SAN ANTONIO - Graduating and former St. Philip's college construction students put what they've learned to the test at an east-side neighborhood.

Separate teams worked to spruce up an entire block in the city's Denver Heights neighborhood this weekend as part of 'Rehabarama.'

And it was all free to the homeowners.

The volunteers made all sorts of repairs and added more than a few layers of paints to the homes.

"Just seeing everything out here I was just so amazed. Everything is just so beautiful there are so many people and I greatly appreciate it all,” homeowner Alma T. Garcia said. “It’s something I've always wanted and could never do it and it's getting done. I just feel like it’s a blessing."

May is preservation month and ‘Rehadarama’ is the city's premiere hands-on event. In all, the students made repairs to 18 homes in the area.
