A KENS 5 viewer saw her story and scooped her up Saturday.

CONVERSE, Texas — UPDATE

After being at the Converse Animal Shelter for 623 days, Chrissy was adopted Saturday morning. A KENS 5 viewer saw her story and told her husband, a retired K-9 officer, about her and they scooped her up quickly.

We love it when our Forgotten Friends get their forever homes!

Our "Forgotten Friends" series showcases a dog or cat each week that has spent a lengthy time at an area shelter, just waiting for someone to notice them and bring them home to love.

This week’s Forgotten Friend is a super sweet German Shepherd named Chrissy that was brought to the Converse Animal Shelter almost two years ago as a stray. Sadly, nobody came forward to claim her and she has been waiting there ever since.

"She was brought in with two other German Shepherds back in May of 2022 that were found hanging out behind a dumpster at a convenience store," said shelter staff. "They were all covered in ticks. The other two have been adopted, and Chrissy is hoping she is next."

Chrissy is almost four years old, weighs about 74 pounds, and is a 100% German Shepherd, according to the Wisdom Panel DNA test the shelter had done for her.

She is kennel-trained, and in fact doesn't have any accidents in her kennel at all.

"She loves the staff and volunteers, and has been working with a trainer and staff to become more comfortable around people (mainly men) she doesn’t know," said shelter staff. "Once she gets to know someone, she is one of the most loving dogs you could meet and she will play all day with you if you let her."

She'd do best with an active family with no small children. Chrissy gets along with other dogs, but cats are a hard pass from her. But maybe she just hasn't met the right feline.

She loves to play fetch, but also likes to play keep-away and make you chase her around to get toys back from her. She also adores chest and tummy scratches.

Chrissy is healthy, current on her vaccinations, heartworm negative and has been spayed.

She is super smart too! "She knows how to sit, stay, lay down, leave it, touch and is learning to spin in a circle," said shelter staff.

Did you notice that one of cute ears likes to flop over?

"Chrissy loves her kiddie pool, but does not like getting sprayed with the water hose," said shelter staff. "She will watch you fill her pool up from a distance and when you are done, then she will go for a dip."

This gorgeous girl is just waiting for her forever family at the Converse Animal Shelter.
