Sumter County Sheriff's deputy, K-9 handler passes away at 27

Sr. Deputy William Mosier had joined the sheriff's department on May 30, 2023

SUMTER, S.C. — The Sumter County Sheriff's Department is mourning the loss of one of their own . Sumter County Sheriff Anthony Dennis announced the death Tuesday afternoon of Senior Deputy and K9 handler William Mosier. 

Mosier had been employed with SCSD as a certified Class 1 Deputy for about seven months after having served with the Marlboro County Sheriff's Office. He was also a K9 handler with K9 Rojo as his partner.

The 27-year-old passed away early Tuesday morning, December 12, 2023. No cause of death has yet been released, but the sheriff's office did say it was not duty-related. 

Sheriff Dennis described Mosier as known for being upbeat, smiling and energetic and "down-to-earth, enthusiastic, committed to excellence, and had a good sense of humor. He was an excellent deputy and will be missed."

Sr. Deputy William Mosier began his duties at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office on May 30, 2023. More information will be forthcoming as it becomes available.
