Got the 'Munchies'? Take a bite out of these Mexican-style snacks

Among Munchies' specialties are mangonadas, fruit party platters with chamoy and drinks like the "Rusa."

SAN ANTONIO - 'The munchies' are spreading across San Antonio as a popular Mexican-style snack shop continues to expand.

Since moving to San Antonio about five years ago, Munchies owner Ramiro Mendiola is working to satisfy demand for these tasty and tangy treats.

"I saw a lack of places like this. If there were any, you'd have to drive about 10 or 20 miles south," he said.

While he said he has seen local pop-ups and ice cream stands, the idea behind Munchies is for people to take a break, sit down and have a snack.

There are three locations around the city in the Castle Hills, Stone Oak and UTSA areas.

Mendiola said Munchies has also branched out into offering catering services and delivery. While there are many Mexican-inspired options, there are snacks like milkshakes and sandwiches available as well.

"A lot of people say, 'You know what? This tastes just like back in Mexico.' That's the goal," he said.
