Cake Boss Buddy Valastro hosts S.A. bakery opening

Our Alamo City Carlo's Bakery location will feature never-before-seen menu items.

SAN ANTONIO - The Cake Boss himself, Buddy Valastro, arrived in San Antonio this week ahead of the grand opening of Carlo's Bakery Saturday.

The newest bakery opened Saturday and is located at the Shops at La Cantera near Kona Grill.

"The reaction from the people in San Antonio has been amazing. I think we're probably going to have the biggest opening to date of all the Carlo's bakeries anywhere in the world. I hope they enjoy a little taste of Hoboken here in San Antonio," Valastro said.

He said the lobster tails and cannolis at Carlo's Bakery are "must-taste" items.

There are also cake slices available. San Antonio will even see some new treats on the menu, including tres leches cake and breakfast sandwiches.

A new Carlo's Bakery food truck will be on hand for the grand opening to serve food and drinks to people waiting to get in.

Alamo City Cake Boss fans will also be able to get their hands on a top secret drink: The Holy Cannoli. Buddy promises that you're going to want to take a picture with it.

"My daughter Sophia is really into social media. She said, 'Daddy, you have to do this really awesome Instagrammable drink.' The first time the Holy Cannoli is going to be anywhere is going to be right here in San Antonio, baby," Valastro said.

Buddy's father acquired the original New Jersey bakery in 1964. He and his family have expanded the business across the country and have starred in the popular Cake Boss TLC reality show since 2009.

Mauro Castano, Buddy's brother-in-law, caught up with KENS 5 earlier in the process as the bakery prepared to open.

While the San Antonio bakery began hosting a soft opening Wednesday and serving customers as they happened to walk in, the grand opening is set for 7 a.m. Saturday. The soft opening served as training for staff members.

Buddy said the best chance to see him and the famiglia is by attending the grand opening Saturday. He expects to be there throughout the day.

"You know what they say, everything is bigger in Texas. Well now, everything just got a little bit sweeter in Texas," Valastro said.
