James Bradley gets life in prison in 2017 smuggling deaths case

The man who admitted to his role in a human smuggling attempt that left 10 people dead will learn his fate Friday.

The man who admitted to his role in a human smuggling attempt that left 10 people dead will spend the rest of his life in prison.

James Bradley, Jr. learned his fate Friday morning in federal court in San Antonio after pleading guilty to federal charges earlier this year.

Bradley was found guilty of seven charges related to the deaths of 10 undocumented immigrants in a smuggling case.

Bradley was judged for everything from transporting undocumented immigrants resulting in death to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon for the 38 caliber pistol recovered from inside the cab of that truck.

By pleading guilty, he admitted that on July 23 of last year he conspired to, and did, transport undocumented immigrants into the country for money and to help them enter illegally.

Ten of them died on the sweltering-hot ride in the back of the trailer he transported them in discovered at a local Walmart when some of those people came out begging for water and help.

Despite the ten deaths associated with the deadly incident, the federal government chose not to seek the death penalty.
