Volunteers needed to help with NCAA Men's Final Four in San Antonio

More than 3,500 volunteers are needed for all the festivities. There is a job for everyone, including drivers, greeters, media shuttle monitors. You can also help out at the fan and music fests.

SAN ANTONIO - It's not even March and the madness has already started. San Antonio once again will host the 2018 Men's NCAA Final Four, and an army of volunteers is needed.

This will be the fourth time the city will be the place for the tournament.

Chairman of the NCAA Division 1 Men's Basketball Committee, Bruce Rasmussen, said San Antonio is the perfect spot.

"People are friendly," he said. "They are warm. They are hospitable. The energy level is different in this city than any other city in the country."

More than 3,500 volunteers are needed for all the festivities.

There is a job for everyone, including drivers, greeters, media and shuttle monitors. You can also help out at the fan and music fests.

Jenny Carnes with San Antonio Sports said they rely on volunteers.

"They become the backbone of an event like this," she said. The first volunteer to sign up, at the kick-off event Wednesday, is everyone's favorite Spurs Coyote. The volunteers also get a lot of perks."

"There is clothing," Rasmussen said. "There is association with the Final Four that the volunteers are going to get."

In order to be a volunteer, you must be at least 18 years of age, pass a background check, and participate in a training session.

"We are going to be recruiting until every shift is full," Carnes said. "And hopefully that is way before March so we have a comfort level going into the tournament." The Final Four is set for March 30 to April 2.
