Official Fiesta 2018 Tricentennial poster unveiled

The official tricentennial edition of the 2018 Fiesta poster was unveiled at a ceremony on Wednesday.

Attention Fiesta fanatics! The official 2018 Fiesta poster has been unveiled. It's an iconic Fiesta image...with some flare.

KENS 5 got a first look at the unveiling inside the Witte Museum.

"I know most of you look forward to Christmas every year, but these folks and me we look forward to Fiesta. We're on a countdown," said Queen of Medals Rosa Mendez, who attended the unveiling.

The 2018 Fiesta poster is designed by Suzan Browning of San Antonio. She is one of a dozen applicants who submitted artwork for the city's tricentennial year Fiesta design.

"I think it's just so vibrant and it includes so much Fiesta but, most importantly, it's really an original design," said Amy Shaw, executive director of the Fiesta San Antonio Commission. "It takes an iconic Fiesta image and expands upon it."

Browning's Fiesta masterpiece is years in the making. She says she's always wanted to submit a design, and this year, she did.

"I was really interested in the Mexican folk art tradition of the papel picado, so I've just been fascinated with that forever since I've lived here," Browning explained. "That was truly the inspiration for the design."

The winner is chosen based on their vibrant color scheme. Is their idea one-of-a-kind?

The design won't just be a Fiesta poster. It's translated to an entire line of merchandise for Fiesta lovers to wear and collect.

"The world is so crazy these days," Browning said. "We need to have fun and joy and laughter. I think San Antonio is awesome in they allow a space and time to do that."

All of the merchandise with the new Fiesta 2018 poster is on sale now at Fiesta-SA.org. It will also be on sale at the Fiesta store located at 2611 Broadway Street starting Thursday.

All proceeds from the Fiesta store go right back to all of the non-profits that make up Fiesta.
