Medium chance for a subtropical storm to form this week

This area will not be a threat to the United States.

NEW ORLEANS — Today is the last day of the 2020 Hurricane Season. We can only hope it ends today after the record breaking season we've experienced. We had a record 30 named storms, 13 hurricanes (record: 15 - 2005) and 6 major hurricanes (record: 7 - 2005).

We are tracking a disorganized non-tropical low meandering near the Madeira Islands, north of the Canary Islands off Africa. It could gain some subtropical characteristics the next few days as it moves slowly just west of Portugal. NHC is giving this system a medium chance to develop in the next 5 days.

Elsewhere...the rest of the tropics are quiet.
