Freezing temps will persist in San Antonio for days. Here's what you need to know.

Freezing rain was recorded at the San Antonio International Airport around 4 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.

SAN ANTONIO — Stay on your toes, San Antonians, because cold weather is in store over the next couple of days. In addition, a Winter Weather Advisory continues for San Antonio until 6 a.m. Friday morning, according to the National Weather Service. 

Freezing rain was recorded at the San Antonio International Airport around 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon.

The majority of Bexar County, including San Antonio, will continue to stay in an advisory as mixed precipitation with minor accumulations, low temperatures and low wind-chill values are possible overnight Thursday. 

Stay inside and stay warm Thursday night as light ice accumulation is still possible on bridges and overpasses in San Antonio through early Friday morning.

Low temperatures could drop below freezing Thursday night, into the low-30s and upper-20s. Winds will only be around 10 mph but that will make wind chill temperatures fall into the low-20s. 

Therefore, don't forget to drip those faucets tonight in kitchens and bathrooms to prevent pipes from freezing.

Remember, a constant faucet drip relieves pressure from building between the ice and faucet. This helps to prevent your pipes from cracking and bursting. 

How cold will it get in San Antonio and when?

The low temperatures will continue through Saturday morning when a widespread freeze is possible with temperatures falling in the upper-20s.

Thursday night into Friday morning, temperatures will fall in the low-30s. One model has temperatures reaching 31 degrees around 8:30 a.m. but lower temperatures could be expected.

On Friday and Saturday, high temperatures could warm into the 50s under partly cloudy skies. However, late evening and morning temperatures drop back down to the 20s.

Temperatures could drop near 28 degrees for the next couple of days allowing San Antonio to stay in a light freeze. With this possibility, remember the pets, plants, people and pipes before you turn in for the evening Thursday and Friday.
