SAN ANTONIO — Central Texans, who needs a summer vacation when you can have a summer staycation in one of the top travel destinations in the country?

According to a new study by WalletHub, the Greater San Antonio area (San Antonio-New Braunfels) was ranked #12 on a list of 'Best Summer Travel Destinations.'

The study compared 100 metro areas across 40 key indicators of budget- and fun-friendliness.

Data ranges from cost of the cheapest flight to the number of attractions, amongst other factors. 

On a scale of 1 to 50, with 1 being the best and 50 being average, here's how the Greater San Antonio area scored in several areas: 

  • Travel Costs & Hassles- 23
  • Local Costs- 7
  • Number of Attractions- 19
  • Diversity of Attractions- 12
  • Cost fo Cheapest Flight- 23

The Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford, Florida metro area topped the list, while two other Texas metros made it into the top 10. 

The Austin-Round Rock, TX Metro area came in second, while the Dallas-Forth Worth-Arlington, TX metro area came in fifth.
