TxDOT Task Force to make construction zones along I-10 safer

Wet weather can create dangerous road conditions, especially for the construction mess along I-10 where Texas Department of Transportation crews have seen an alarming number of crashes.

SAN ANTONIO — The Texas Department of Transportation created a Task Force several weeks ago to help improve safety in a construction corridor between I-10 & 1604 to SH 46.

"We created an internal task force between traffic safety, traffic operations and construction, engineers in all departments to take a look at what's going on out there [and] what we can do," TxDOT Public Information Officer Hernan Rozemberg said.

Since its creation, the task force has come up with a list of possible changes to help decrease the number of accidents and increase public safety.

"One of the things we did was analyze accident reports to see if there are any trends going on and there is definitely a speeding issue," Rozemberg said.

Rozemberg said they plan to add more barriers, signage, and a uniform speed limit throughout the construction zones.

"Really encouraging the public to do their part, safe driving," Rozemberg said. "You have to be very careful in a construction zone. Abide by the speed limit or go below it."

TxDOT Task Force wants to hear your concerns about the construction corridor. You can give your feedback by going on their social media pages or on their website, www.txdot.gov.
