TxDOT urges slower driving in winter weather

Drivers faced delays Tuesday morning as ice coated roads across Bexar County. TxDOT pre-treated roads to prevent worse conditions.

SAN ANTONIO — Texas Department of Transportation crews worked on Monday and overnight into Tuesday to prepare roads for the winter weather to come this week, and will continue "pre-treatment" as more precipitation and cold temperatures approach.

“We pre-treated I-10 through the Hill Country, Bexar County, the major interchanges, the direct connectors, we even had pre-treatment in Comal County," Laura Lopez said.

TxDOT did have to re-treat several areas as the ice came in, and San Antonio Police closed several roads while ice was cleared.

"This is just the beginning of our winter weather and we want to be sure the traveling public is aware that with these weather conditions you have to drive slower than you normally do when it’s nice and sunny outside," Lopez said.
