Thousands of pounds of cucumbers spill onto I-10 East at Loop 1604, shutting down highway

San Antonio commuters were encouraged to find alternate routes Tuesday evening while the mess was being cleaned up.

SAN ANTONIO — A rollover accident involving an 18-wheeler shut down East I-10 at Loop 1604 in east San Antonio after thousands of pounds of cucumbers were spilled on the highway. 

A TxDOT spokesperson told KENS 5 the wreck happened just before 9 p.m. Tuesday, but there was no word on injuries. 

More than 32,000 pounds of the vegetable were spilled onto the freeway.

The mess took several hours to clean up; drivers were encouraged to find an alternate route.
