Major northbound exit through Waco to close for I-35 construction project

The traffic headaches will only get worse when TxDot closes the northbound University Parks Dr. exit.

WACO, Texas — The Texas Department of Transportation will remove the northbound I-35 University Parks Dr. exit as part of the project to rebuild the interstate through Waco, TxDOT said Friday.

In order to remove the exit ramp safely and efficiently, crews plan to close all lanes on 4th and 5th Streets below the I-35 mainlanes starting at 7 p.m., Monday.

Crews will re-open 4th St. Tuesday by Noon and 5th St. by 6 a.m.

Additional lane closures will be in place Tuesday and Wednesday, as needed, to complete clean-up, TxDOT said.

Crews also plan to close the southbound entrance ramp just south of 5th Street at 7 p.m. Monday.

Once the removal and clean-up of the University Parks Drive exit ramp is complete, the entrance ramp will re-open.

To cross under I-35, those traveling westbound on 4th Street will be directed to the northbound frontage road where they can turn around using University Parks Drive and reconnect with 4th Street using the southbound frontage road.

Those traveling eastbound on 5th Street will be directed to the southbound frontage road where they can turn around using 18th Street and reconnect with 5th Street using the northbound frontage road.
