San Antonio notches statement win as it goes over .500 on the season

The Spurs began the final quarter of Thursday's game like they ended the third: dismantling a strong Clippers team.

After beginning the quarter on a 16-7 run, the Spurs finished the evening by defeating a Clippers team that was fourth in the conference standings entering the matchup. Now, they're on a two-game losing streak after San Antonio's statement victory.

San Antonio is now riding a 4-game winning streak for the second time this season.

Third Quarter: Spurs 98, Clippers 77

Spurs limit Clippers to 20 third-quarter points for huge lead entering final frame

San Antonio kept its pedal to the metal after halftime, coming out of the locker room and embarking on a 14-7 run over the first few minutes of the third quarter. They rode that momentum to a 98-77 lead at the end of the quarter, putting them in good position to win their fourth straight game.

Aldridge continued his hot shooting night by adding 8 points in the quarter; he has a game-high 27 points through three periods. Rudy Gay and DeMar DeRozan have 15 and 14 points, respectively.

Halftime: Spurs 66, Clippers 57

San Antonio rides big first quarter to halftime lead against Los Angeles

The visiting Clippers inched just a bit closer to their opponents, outscoring the Spurs 30-28 in the second quarter.

Aldridge has a team-high 15 points while Marco Belinelli chipped in with 12 points off the bench in the first half. Despite being out-rebounded in the first half, their defense has been staunch when it matters, with four blocks and four steals scattered across the team.

First Quarter: Spurs 38, Clippers 27

San Antonio began Thursday night's game on a high note, leading 16-13 halfway through the first quarter. LaMarcus Aldridge helped his team come out of the gate strong with 6 early points on 3-3 shooting from the field.

The Spurs rode that momentum to a 38-27 lead after one period of play, having shot 62 percent from the field through 12 minutes of play.

As the Spurs continue their early-season turnaround after struggling to maintain consistency for over a month, they’ll be taking on a Western Conference contender when the Clippers come to town Thursday evening.

San Antonio (14-14) will be looking for their fourth straight win, as well as to climb back over .500 in their 2018-19 campaign. Los Angeles, meanwhile, is seeking to rebound following a loss to the Raptors at home on Tuesday.
