Thunder defeat Spurs, 122-112

San Antonio will be looking for another win when it travels to face Russell Westbrook and the Thunder in OKC.

SAN ANTONIO — Final: Spurs 112, Thunder 122

The Thunder continued to keep the Silver and Black at arm's length in the fourth quarter, which saw Russell Westbrook and Dennis Schroder play vital roles in sealing the game for OKC.

The Thunder began to put the game out of reach with about six minutes to go, embarking on a 13-4 run over three minutes to seal victory.

Marco Belinelli led San Antonio with 24 points, matching Westbrook for the game-high.

San Antonio falls to 25-19 on the season after the loss. The Silver and Black will take on Charlotte next back home at the AT&T Center Monday evening.

Third Quarter: Spurs 80, Thunder 86

The Thunder came to play in the second half.

Oklahoma City started the frame on a 15-3 run, grabbing the momentum and lead from the Spurs in the process. Before five minutes in the half had passed, the Thunder led 66-63.

The Spurs tied up the affair at 70-all a few minutes later, thanks in part to DeRozan's efforts.

The Thunder outscored San Antonio 16-10 the rest of the period, but the Spurs at least were able to stall their momentum and keep George, Westbrook and Co. from running away with the game early.

Second Quarter: Spurs 60, Thunder 51

Oklahoma City began to inch closer to the Spurs in the first half of the second quarter before San Antonio pulled away and pushed its lead back to eight halfway through.

Pau Gasol was one reason why.

A trey from Derrick White gave the Spurs their biggest lead of the night so far, 48-37. The Spurs crossed the 50-point mark with over five minutes to go in the half.

With the Thunder once again working to close the gap in OKC, DeMar DeRozan got down to business to make sure his team's first-half efforts wouldn't go for naught. He scored six of the Spurs' final eight points to close the quarter, ensuring a nine-point lead for the Silver and Black at halftime.

First Quarter: Spurs 31, Thunder 23

Bryn Forbes helped San Antonio get things started on the right foot, scoring his team's first five points in the opening frame.

Aside from Forbes, scoring was limited on both sides in the opening minutes, with the score 7-3 five minutes into the matchup.

Davis Bertans's six points through 7+ minutes helped keep the Thunder at bay early, though only barely so. With 4:16 left in the first quarter, the score was 13-12, Spurs.

The Silver and Black later pushed its lead to five with this gorgeous sequence involving Patty Mills and DeMar DeRozan .

San Antonio rode that momentum to an eight-point lead by the end of the opening quarter. After scoring a career-high 56 points Thursday, LaMarcus Aldridge has six points for the Spurs. Bertans has nine.

Pregame

San Antonio won that double-OT game that moved Gregg Popovich into third-place all-time on the NBA regular season wins list. Saturday night’s encore is between two teams among the top six spots in the Western Conference entering play, with the Silver and Black winners in seven of their last 10 games.

Both the Spurs and Rockets are just 4.5 games out of first place in the West entering Saturday’s game.
