Bats interrupt first quarter of Spurs-Nets at AT&T Center

A decade after a bat was swatted out of the air by a certain Spurs icon, our winged friends returned Thursday.

SAN ANTONIO — And you thought your courtside seats were a good view for the Spurs.

A few minutes into Thursday night’s game against the Nets at the AT&T Center, play had to be stopped after a small colony of bats made their way into the arena, flying around for a few minutes as the teams, refs and fans could only watch.

Of course, the incident immediately recalled Halloween Night in 2009, when then-Spur Manu Ginobili swatted a bat out of midair in a game against the Kings.

Maybe it’s time the folks at the AT&T Center start hanging up garlic.
