SAN ANTONIO — The beginning of December is more than just a time for setting up Christmas trees and planning New Years’ excursions. It also means the college football bowl season is nigh and, as of Sunday afternoon, it officially means preparing for when Washington State and Iowa State come to San Antonio to face off in the 2018 Alamo Bowl.

It will be the first time the programs play each other.

No. 24 Iowa State finished third in the Big 12 this year with an 8-4 overall record. No. 13 Washington State, meanwhile, finished their campaign with a 10-2 overall record to be the Pac 12 representative.

The Cougars have fared a bit better than the Cyclones in their respective bowl game histories, garnering a 7-7 record to Iowa State's 4-9 mark. However, Washington State hasn't won a bowl matchup since 2015; Iowa State was victorious in last year's Liberty Bowl over Memphis.

Kickoff for the Alamo Bowl is set for 8 p.m. on Dec. 28 at the Alamodome. The game will also broadcast on ESPN.

In last year’s matchup, the TCU Horned Frogs rallied for a dramatic 39-37 win over the Stanford Cardinals.
