SAN ANTONIO — As Texas high school football coaches like to say, if you can look up in the stands and see people wearing Santa hats, it's been a good season.
The teams that have made it this far are the real deal, and there are no more easy games. The regional semifinal round continued Saturday and we have highlights from a trio of games featuring San Antonio-area teams.
In a 6A DII contest at the Alamodome, the Brownsville Hanna Eagles held a 20-7 lead over the Brandeis Broncos at halftime. But the lone team remaining from San Antonio's Northside ISD fought back, taking a late lead and hanging on for a 33-32 win.
The Broncos' next game is against Austin Westlake for the Region IV championship. Check out the photos from Saturday below:
Up I-35 in San Marcos at Bobcat Stadium, the Kerrville Tivy Antlers took on the Calhoun Sandcrabs from out of Port Lavaca. Tivy also fell behind by a couple of scores early, but could not come back and win their 5A DII playoff game. Photos from Saturday afternoon's contest are below:
Finally, in Corpus Christi, La Vernia met La Feria in a battle of 11-1 teams. The Bears took a 14-0 lead into halftime and made things difficult for the Lions all afternoon. La Vernia prevailed, 41-13.
