Foul with .4 seconds dooms UTSA against Texas State

The Bobcats are now 7-1 on the season while UTSA is 2-6.

SAN ANTONIO — The I-35 Showdown is always fun, whether on the football field or on the basketball court, and today's matchup at the Convocation Center between Texas State and UTSA was an all-timer.

Jhivvan Jackson did everything he could to get his Birds a win Saturday afternoon. With a minute left in the game, Jackson drills a corner three to put his team up one point.

After a UTSA stop and two free throws, Texas State would have one more possession to tie the game. Nijal Pearson hit a huge three-pointer with 13 seconds left. The clock kept ticking.

Jackson went for the game-winner in transition and failed to convert. The ball bounced around and landed in the hands of Texas State player Jaylen Shead. Keaton Wallace cut him off near the sideline and fouled him with .4 seconds left.

Shead hit a free throw and that would be the game. Texas State wins 69-68.

The Bobcats are now 7-1 on the season while UTSA is 2-6.

Jackson and Keaton combined for 41 points in the Roadrunners' loss. Pearson and Alex Peacock combine for 41 points in the win for Texas State.

The Roadrunners' next game is Saturday, December 8 at 3 p.m. when UTSA hosts Mid-America Christian.
