GAME BLOG: Commanders defeat Stallions, 19-15, after final flurry of points

San Antonio (4-2) is coming off a four-game road trip as it prepares to play Salt Lake (2-4).

FINAL: Stallions 15, Commanders 19

That's all she wrote! San Antonio's clutch touchdown in the waning minutes of the fourth quarter is the difference-maker as the Commanders defeat the Stallions, 19-15, Saturday night at the Alamodome.

San Antonio improves to 5-2 with the victory, and remains atop the West in the standings.

The Commanders will take those two points, thank you very much.

Salt Lake responded to San Antonio's clutch TD with its town trip to the endzone, but on the ensuing conversion attempt De'Vante Bausby of the Commanders instead brought it back to the opposite end of the field.

Instead of being within one, the Stallions are now down four with the clock rapidly draining.

---

And just like that, San Antonio has nearly doubled its score!

With 5:29 to go in the game, a 36-yard touchdown bomb to Trey Williams, along with a subsequent successful two-point conversion, has given the home team a 17-9 lead in the fourth.

Salt Lake is still within striking distance, and the end to this game could get interesting.

This matchup continues to be a defensive stalemate as the clock continues to tick. Only one in this half have points gone on the board, and those came from a Salt Lake field goal in the third quarter.

Third Quarter: Stallions 9, Commanders 9

Field goals have invaded the game. Salt Lake makes it third attempt to tie up the score once again, this time at 9-9 with still plenty of football to go.

Second Quarter: Stallions 6, Commanders 9

A field goal, the Commanders' score would end up being. The Stallions' defense was impenetrable at the goal line to end the half, and San Antonio couldn't sneak through even with a free set of downs to work with.

Rose's field goal is a good one, and they retake the lead, 9-6, as time expires in the second quarter.

A good break goes the Commanders' way!

San Antonio made a field goal that would have given them a 9-6 lead, but a penalty on Salt Lake has provided them with a fresh set of downs and new opportunities to get into the endzone as the first half winds down to a close.

This affair is tied up.

For the second time in this game, the visiting team has knocked the ball through the uprights and settled for another three points to get even with the home squad. The score is 6-6 with 13:38 to go until halftime.

First Quarter: Stallions 3, Commanders 6

The first period of play ends with San Antonio still leading, 6-3, and the ball in the Stallions' possession. Salt Lake nearly turned the ball over as Bouagnon fumbled but was able to quickly recover.

---

Both teams put points on the board for their opening drives, but it's the Commanders who reached the endzone on a 21-yard touchdown pass from Logan Woodside to Mekale McKay, Jr.

The Stallions had the ball first and settled for a field goal. San Antonio leads early, 6-3.

Pregame

There's no place like home.

The San Antonio Commanders (4-2) will hope that adage remains true at the end of their Saturday evening game against the visiting Salt Lake Stallions (2-4).

The Commanders are returning from a 3-1 road trip that has set them up well for the season's stretch run. They lead the West with four games left in the Alliance of American Football's inaugural season, with San Diego and Arizona looming closely behind at 3-3.
