Castro Bros. weigh in after bombshell BuzzFeed report

Julián and Joaquin Castro said impeachment should be on the table if reporting that President Trump instructed his attorney to lie to Congress is true.

SAN ANTONIO — Julián and Joaquin Castro have some thoughts after BuzzFeed journalists reported that President Donald Trump instructed his personal attorney to lie to Congress.

The two brothers – one of which recently announced his entrance into the 2020 presidential race – said that if the reporting is true, Trump should be impeached.

In November Michael Cohen admitted to lying to Congress when he said talks to build a Trump Tower in Moscow ended six months earlier than they actually did. On Thursday, BuzzFeed reported Special Counsel Robert Mueller has uncovered evidence the president personally instructed Cohen to life.

Two law enforcement sources told the news outlet they uncovered the request to lie through Trump Organization documents and multiple interviews with witnesses; Cohen reportedly verified the claims.

Presidential candidate and former San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro said Friday on “The View” that if that is true, impeachment proceedings should begin immediately, but added, “We have a process to determine if this is true or not and must be confirmed before jumping to conclusions.”

His brother, Joaquin, echoed the sentiment on Twitter.

President Trump, for his part, tweeted Friday morning that Cohen is lying in an effort to reduce his jail time. Cohen faces three years in prison for violating campaign finance regulations.
