XFL Football could be coming to San Antonio

City officials say they are evaluating the request and have not announced how it will respond.

SAN ANTONIO — City of San Antonio officials have confirmed the stadium received a request for a proposal from the XFL League Thursday.

The XFL league was started by sports and entertainment promoter, Vince McMahon, in 2001. The league struggled to find its audience and ended up folding after only one season.

The league is now being "re-imagined" to be shorter and more family friendly, McMahon says.

"We will present a shorter, faster-paced, family friendly and easier to understand game," McMahon said in a news conference back in January. "Don't get me wrong, it's still football, but it's professional football re-imagined."

City officials say they are evaluating the request and have not announced how it will respond.

Patricia Musquiz-Cantor, Interim Director, Convention & Sports Facilities, City of San Antonio released this statement Thursday morning: "

The Alamodome has received a request for proposal from the XFL league. We are currently evaluating it."
