Southside HS student arrested for allegedly bringing gun to campus

A letter from the principal didn't identify the student who was taken into custody.

SAN ANTONIO — An unidentified student at Southside High School was arrested Thursday for allegedly bringing a gun to campus, according to a letter sent to parents by Principal Henry Yzaguirre.

Yzaguirre wrote the firearm was not in anyone’s possession when school administrators were notified, adding it was “recovered from a storm drain on the campus.” He said investigators have determined there is “no longer any immediate threat.”

It’s unclear what disciplinary action, if any, the student will face from school officials.

“We encourage all stakeholders to be vigilant of any potential threats to our schools,” Yzaguirre said. “It is also important to know that we take all threats seriously. We will investigate and prosecute to the fullest extent.”
