San Antonio police officers traveled to Austin Monday to honor their fallen brother, Det. Benjamin Marconi, according to a social media post on the San Antonio Police Department Facebook page.

The officers were there to attend the 2017 Peace Officers Memorial which took place on the steps of the Texas State Capitol.

Det. Marconi was honored along with other fallen officers from around the state.

The event began with a procession that began on the Congress Avenue Bridge at about 10:30 AM.

The Peace Officers Memorial was preceded by a Candle Light Vigil that took place Sunday night at the site of the Texas Peace Officers Memorial Monument on the northeast side of the Capitol.

Det. Marconi was killed in November of 2016 by a man who walked up to Marconi's police car and shot him. Marconi had pulled over a speeding car and was sitting in his vehicle writing a ticket parked just behind SAPD headquarters when the incident took place.
