San Antonio Police are having a hard time stopping a wave of violence on the city's east side.
The most recent incident was a murder Monday morning at a home on Sample and Pine, near the Alamodome.
Police said they have no suspect, no motive, and no witness to the shooting that left a young father dead.
But family members of the victim told KENS 5 they can't believe what happened.
"He's a real good family man, you know he's always been about his kids, go to work, just a real good family man," said Darell Ward, cousin of the victim.
Police said it appears the victim, who relatives identified as Kevin Duplechain, was shot inside a home on Sample.
A blood trail outside was the only clue for neighbors that someone had been injured.
"As he was trying to get away it appears he may have jumped out a window and then ran to a nearby location where he passed away," said SAPD Sgt. Michelle Ramos.
If this case is like others in this area, authorities will have a tough time tracking down the killer.
"We're just having a hard time keeping up," said Ramos.
Neighbors say drug dealers and gang members are taking over, firing shots at anyone who interferes.
Just over a week ago, a local and federal task force arrested nine gang members suspected of running drug operations.
One of the men arrested is the father of a 4-year-old killed this summer during a drive-by shooting.
But relatives of this latest victim say he wasn't involved in gangs or drugs.
They said he was a family man who will be sorely missed.
"He was always smiling, kept everybody happy. He was always the life of the family parties. We're going to miss that about Kevin," said Ward.
KENS 5 requested the calls for service by San Antonio Police for this area.
Since the beginning of November, officials have been called out twice before today.
Both times for drug-related activity.
