SAISD seniors receive scholarships from C. H. Guenther & Son

15 SAISD seniors received scholarships from iconic San Antonio food company C. H. Guenther & Son. We talked to a few of the students about what the scholarships mean to them.

Affording college just got a little bit easier for 15 seniors from San Antonio ISD high schools.

The prestigious scholarships are $1,500 each. The scholarship program from C.H. Guenther & Son has been going on for almost 20 years.

“It surprised me to see that I was one of the few candidates,” Brackenridge High School senior Jacob Mendoza said.

“I feel very lucky to be able to get this scholarship because it’s going to help me in my path going to college,” Highlands High School senior Marla Lizarraga said. She will be attending Texas A&M University in the fall.

Officials call the scholarships a good start, and want to make sure the students are using the money toward their education.

The presentation was not without smiles: A comment that the scholarships “are not beer money” drew laughs from the crowd Thursday.
