#PrayForRoman: Community rallies to support student paralyzed after tragic fall

South San Antonio High School student Roman Caldera was injured during a practice stunt for a Powder Puff game.

SAN ANTONIO — The cold weather Saturday did not stop a community from coming together at South San Athletic Center to rally behind a student who was paralyzed last month during a practice stunt for a Powder Puff game.

Organizers started as early as 4:15 AM, cooking up chicken, sausage, beans, and 1200 servings of rice,

All of the proceeds go toward Roman Caldera's medical expenses, as he continues in his recovery from a stunt that his family says left him paralyzed from the neck down.

Andy Guevara attended the plate sale benefit for Caldera, whom he says deserves the help of the community.

"It's not just about South San coming together for Roman, It's about a Southside community coming together for a young man who deserves this attention," Guevara said.

Event organizers say Saturday's turnout was a blessing for the family. And for those who couldn't attend the event but still want to help, the family has formed a GoFundMe for Caldera's recovery.
